Google has announced that it is rolling out a new feature which will allow the users to search using images and also add text to that specific image search.

This feature is available with Google Lens which is an image recognition tool. The feature is currently available in beta for the US users searching using English.

Google is making efforts to use AI to create information experiences which are conversational, multimodal and personal.

Google is also exploring ways this new feature could be used with MUM (Multitask Unified Model) which is Google’s latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) model.

For example, if you like a dress but not the colour then you can take a picture of the dress and in the text add ‘Green’ to your search query. You will get dresses in the colour of your choice.

For example, if you are looking for a new coffee table and you want to make sure it matches your current furniture then you can take a photo of your dining table and add ‘Coffee table’ in your search query. You will get matching tables.

For example, If you have bought a new plant and do not know how to care for it then you can take a photo of the plant and add ‘Care instructions’ in your search query to learn more about it.

  1. This feature will be helpful for the queries which have a visual element and it is difficult to describe using words alone. By combining images and text Google will be better able to deliver relevant search results.

  2. Google recommends using the new feature with shopping searches. Now you can ask questions about what you see and go beyond the search box.

  3. The users can access content using desktop search, mobile search, voice search, image search and now multisearch.
